Orange the world in 16 days

Mobilization, let us join forces! 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Today is November 25th. This date marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The ‘16 Days of Activism’ campaign ends on December 10th, International Human Rights Day.

This year, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women invites you to “Orange YOUR Neighbourhood.” These 16 Days offer an opportunity for individuals and groups around the world to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women by:

  • Increasing women's safety
  • Highlighting the nature and prevalence of violence against women
  • Raising awareness of violence against women as a human rights issue
  • Establishing a clear link between local and international work to end violence against women
  • Showing solidarity among women around the world
  • Promoting women's leadership
  • Lobbying governments
  • Strengthening local work to tackle violence against women

Soroptimists Invest in Education

By promoting education Soroptimists help women achieve equality and freedom from social, economic and cultural constraints. The aim is to empower women and girls to realize their dreams and potential.  Education enables women and children to pursue lifelong learning. Education is also a means to empower women. And education works as a tool to eradicate and prevent violence against women.

What can Soroptimsts do?

The 16 Days of Activism are an ideal opportunity to raise awareness in Soroptimist Clubs, communities and countries. Soroptimists have actively engaged in their respective communities for decades and been extremely influential and efficient in delivering responses. We indeed understand the local challenges and see the realities that women face. Every year we conceptualize and implement thousands of projects to better women's lives and conditions.
